Midnight Sun Family Learning Center is a Public Charter School of MSBSD
About Our School
Midnight Sun Family Learning Center (MSFLC) is a public charter school located 60 miles north of Anchorage, Alaska off of the Parks Highway at 7275 West Midnight Sun Drive. Midnight Sun Family Learning Center first opened its doors in September of 1998, becoming one of the two first charter schools in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough.
MSFLC enrolls 196 students. We provide multi-aged classrooms for our students. Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, we will have two K/1 grade classrooms, two 2/3 grade classrooms, all with twenty-four students each, two 4/5 grade classrooms with twenty-six students each, and two middle school classrooms, spanning grades 6-8, with twenty-eight students each.
The family-oriented emphasis allows siblings to learn together. Our unique multiage structure allows children to learn under the knowledge-based structure; knowledge-based schooling puts the emphasis of early education on teaching and learning an enabling core of broadly shared knowledge- enabling because it builds strong foundations for later learning and opens doors to effective participation and mutual understanding in the wider society.
The content-rich academic program is integrated with Core Knowledge concepts and steeped in technology. The MSFLC staff consists of 8 teachers, 8 classroom support personnel, 3 special education aides, an administrative secretary and a teaching-principal who is our special education teacher. Midnight Sun provides an opportunity for parents to have a hands-on involvement in the day-to-day operation of the school. Research shows parent/family involvement directly correlates to student achievement.
